10 First Trimester to-dos

I’m honored that I get to be one of the first to say… Congratulations mama! I hope you find this list helpful and refreshingly unique, in that the way I talk about pregnancy is quite different than ‘What to Expect When You’re Expecting.’

I’m definitely not your mama’s doula.

10 THINGS TO DO IN YOUR FIRST TRIMESTER FOR THE MINDFUL MAMA

  1. Find a provider (Midwife or OB) that listens to you, answers your questions thoroughly and leaves you feeling supported

Spoiler alert: this might not be the same OB that you’ve been going to since high school.

  2. Start on quality prenatal vitamins

My faves listed in the ‘add to cart’ section at the bottom.

  3. Give yourself some grace. Bear with me, this one has several important points:

    • Eat what you can, when you can. An all carb diet right now is perfectly acceptable. If it stays down, it’s perfect.

    • Rest, and rest some more.

    • Get off the scale. There is a wide range of ‘normal’ when it comes to pregnancy weight gain. Let’s prioritize your HEALTH, not your weight.

    • Move your body if & when it feels good.

  4. Journal about your concerns. Try these journal prompts:

    • When I hear my baby’s heart beat for the first time, I will feel…

    • I am brave because…

    • My body is beautiful and perfect because…

    • I love thinking about life after baby because…

    • I love being pregnant because…

  5. Create a comfy and relaxing sleep environment

    • Pregnancy pillows are lovely, but not always necessary. Try a basic body pillow to get started (it’ll come in handy after birth for breastfeeding support).

    • Comfy, loose pajamas.

    • Relaxing sleep meditations.

    • Relaxing evening ritual.

  6. Get in the habit of moisturizing your skin from your boobies to your booty

  7. Join a supportive new moms’ group on Facebook

Key word: supportive. Empowered Moms is my fave - and not just because I’m the host.

  8. Allow me to introduce you to Doulas

I’ll teach you more about Doulas as we go along in your pregnancy. One explanation that has stuck with me is that Doulas ‘mother the mother.’

  9. Consider replacing the phrase ‘due date’ and with ‘due month’

Why? The average first time mom gives birth about one week past her ‘due date.’

  10. Grab a copy of my 42-week pregnancy planner

It’s available for free in the Freebie Library!

Packed with weekly tips, journal prompts and inspiration.
